Privacy Policy

Last updated: April 2026

Welcome to Recipio. We respect your privacy and are committed to protecting your personal data. This policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile app, website (recipio.cc), and Chrome extension.

1. Information We Collect

We collect the minimum information needed to provide our services:

Account information: When you sign up with email, Google, or Apple, we collect your name and email address to create and identify your account.

User content: Recipes, meal plans, grocery lists, cook history, and any images you upload or save through the app, website, or Chrome extension.

Usage data: Anonymised information about how you interact with Recipio — features accessed, pages visited, and actions taken — to help us improve the product.

Device information: Device model, operating system version, and anonymous identifiers used for crash reporting and performance monitoring.

Recipe sources: When you save a recipe via URL import or the Chrome extension, we store the source URL alongside the recipe for attribution and duplicate detection.

2. How We Use Your Data

We use the information we collect to:

  • Create and maintain your Recipio account
  • Sync your recipes, meal plans, and grocery lists across your devices
  • Power AI features (recipe extraction, dietary modification, meal suggestions)
  • Detect duplicate recipes before saving
  • Analyse aggregate usage patterns to improve the product
  • Send transactional emails (OTP login codes, account notifications)
  • Diagnose bugs and crashes

We do not sell your personal data. We do not use your data to train AI models.

3. Third-Party Services

We work with the following trusted providers to operate Recipio:

Appwrite (Cloud Backend)

Your account credentials, recipes, meal plans, grocery lists, and cook history are stored in our self-hosted Appwrite instance. Data is encrypted at rest and in transit using industry-standard TLS.

Anthropic (AI)

Recipe extraction, dietary modifications, and AI Chef responses are powered by Claude (Anthropic). Content sent to Claude is processed solely to generate your requested output and is not used to train models. See Anthropic's Privacy Policy.

Google Analytics (GA4)

We use Google Analytics 4 on recipio.cc and in the Chrome extension (via the Measurement Protocol) to understand aggregate usage patterns. Analytics data is anonymised and not linked to your account. See Google's Privacy Policy.

RevenueCat (Subscriptions)

In-app subscription management is handled by RevenueCat. Payment processing is done by Apple (App Store) or Google (Play Store) — Recipio never sees your payment card details.

4. Chrome Extension

The Recipio Chrome extension runs a content script on web pages you visit to detect recipe structured data (schema.org/Recipe). It only reads page content — it does not read passwords, form inputs, browsing history, or any unrelated page data.

What it accesses: The active tab's URL and page content (to extract recipe data). Access to social media pages (TikTok, Instagram, YouTube) is used solely to extract recipe captions and transcripts.

Authentication: Your Appwrite session is stored in chrome.storage.local — it never leaves your browser except when communicating with our backend.

Analytics: The extension sends anonymous usage events (popup opened, recipe saved, etc.) to Google Analytics 4 via the Measurement Protocol. No personally identifiable information is included in these events.

The extension does not collect browsing history, inject ads, or access any data beyond what is needed to detect and save recipes.

5. Artificial Intelligence

Recipio uses AI to power several features: recipe extraction from URLs and social media, dietary modification, smart scaling, and the AI Chef chat.

When you use an AI feature, the relevant content (a URL, recipe text, or your chat message) is sent to Anthropic's API over an encrypted connection. This content is used only to generate your requested response — it is not stored by Recipio beyond your session, and Anthropic does not use it to train models under their current API terms.

Images you upload for recipe cover photos are stored in Appwrite Storage. They are not passed to any AI service.

6. Data Retention & Deletion

We retain your personal data only for as long as you have an active Recipio account.

You can delete your account at any time from Settings → Account → Delete Account in the mobile app or web app. Deleting your account permanently removes all recipes, meal plans, grocery lists, cook history, and account credentials from our servers within 30 days.

Anonymised, aggregated analytics data (which cannot be linked back to you) may be retained for product analysis purposes.

7. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the following rights regarding your personal data:

  • Access — request a copy of the data we hold about you
  • Correction — ask us to fix inaccurate data
  • Deletion — request removal of your personal data
  • Portability — receive your data in a portable format
  • Objection — object to certain types of processing

To exercise any of these rights, email us at support@recipio.app. We will respond within 30 days.

8. App Tracking Transparency (iOS)

On iOS, we may request permission to track activity across other companies' apps and websites under Apple's App Tracking Transparency framework. This is used solely to measure the effectiveness of our marketing and improve our App Store presence.

You can decline this permission without affecting any feature of Recipio. You can change your choice at any time in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking.
